Paul McCartney Divorce – Alimony Speculation on a High

Paul McCartney & Heather MillsThough Sir Paul McCartney and wife, Heather Mills, have only separated and not petitioned for divorce, yet what alimony the former Beatles member may pay is a subject of speculation. Sir Paul has an estimated worth of £825m, and most experts feel that a huge percentage of this wealth may go to his estranged wife, in the event of divorce.

Most newspapers are of the view that Lady McCartney could receive up to £200m. According to the Sun, a family lawyer has put this figure to £400m, about half the total wealth. A quick divorce could cost Sir Paul around £50m according to the Daily Mirror.

The dividing of assets depends on the merits of each case. In long marriages the principle of equality holds, where the assets are divided 50-50. However, in this case the principle may not hold good, since the marriage is just four years old, and the assets in question are older than that.
