Some Celebrity Divorces
Celebrity divorces are occasions wagging tongues seek to keep their tongues wagging. Tabloids too have a field day digging out information not reported earlier by a rival. It is a painful experience for the parties involved, but time for action for many others. Here are some famous celebrity divorces.
Nicholas Cage – Patricia Arquette Cage proposed to Arquette in 1987, which had Arquette putting some conditions to her acceptance. They eventually married in 1995 and spilt after a nine month initial period, only to get back together for five years. Cage and Arquette then filed for divorce. Reconciliation attempts were made thereafter, which did not succeed.
Roseanne Barr – Tom Arnold Barr and Arnold divorced in 1994 with Roseanne coughing up a reported $50 million as settlement. They were so much in love when they married that Arnold converted to Judaism; and Barr, despite advice to the contrary, did not sign a pre-nup.
Madonna – Sean Penn Married in 1985, this pair was not made for each other. The marriage was a non-starter, which saw a four year period of strife and dissension. The divorce came about in 1989 after Madonna filed for divorce the third time.
Nicholas Cage – Lisa-Marie Presley Married in 2002, both Cage and Presley, daughter of Elvis Presley, could not make it last beyond four months. Presley had earlier married and divorced singing superstar Michael Jackson a few years back. She was also linked to a young Hawaiian musician later. Cage and Presley cited the reason for divorce as “irreconcilable differences”.
Marilyn Monoroe – James Dougherty Legendary Marilyn Monroe was only sixteen and known as Norma Jean when she married James Dougherty in 1942. The marriage ended in divorce four years on in 1946.
Marilyn Monroe – Joe DiMaggio They were another mismatched couple that eloped in 1954. The marriage lasted just over a year when Monroe’s studio insisted on her divorcing DiMaggio for abuse and mental cruelty. Both got back together after Monroe had divorced Arthur Miller, and just four days after DiMaggio proposed Monroe died in 1962.
Marilyn Monroe – Arthur Miller Marilyn married playwright Arthur Miller in 1956. Things started degenerating when Monroe was paying all their expenses including the alimony for Arthur’s earlier divorce. Marilyn finally divorced Arthur in 1961.
